The WHY Behind Empire Base
We built Empire Base because we got tired of being slowed down.
Back in 2009, we were building websites for clients — and had nowhere good to put them.
Slow website backends. Backups that took hours instead of minutes.
Every little bottleneck getting in the way of just… getting things done.
We were a solopreneur too. Trying to move fast, with zero budget, and no good reason why the tools available to people like us had to be this bad.
That frustration is still what drives us today.
Who we’re for
Solopreneurs. Entrepreneurs. Small business owners trying to punch above their weight against competitors with ten times the budget and none of the hustle.
We know, because we’ve been exactly there.
A bit of our story
Empire Base grew out of an earlier venture, built on the same belief: if we’d built your website, you deserved somewhere fast and reliable to put it — not another overloaded server pretending to be “unlimited.”
No marketing budget in those early years. We grew one client at a time, word of mouth, because the work spoke for itself. That’s still largely true today — we stay deliberately small enough to actually know our clients, not just manage their account number.
Two stories tell you most of what you need to know about us:
One client's £1million+ annual e-commerce site ran laggy on a well-known large host - even on VPS servers.
We moved it, made it fast — and a year later they barely check our reports anymore, because it just works.
Another was paying an agency £10,000 a month for what turned out to be one or two blog posts, sometimes also a page adjustment.
We don't do that. We're not here to extract what the market will bear.
We're here because we want the people we work with to actually succeed.
The philosophy behind it all
Every business we work with is somewhere on a journey.
We think about that journey in three stages:
Where you fit in
Maybe you’re just getting started — one person, one laptop, trying to look as credible as competitors ten times your size.
Maybe you’re already growing, but stretched thin — doing well, yet still the bottleneck in your own business.
Or maybe you’re further along than that, doing fine, but ready for systems and support that let you stop doing everything yourself.
Wherever you are,
that’s exactly where we start.
